Quick Feet

Change direction fast without losing balance.

About Quick Feet

Stopping and turning well is a skill. Train the plant-and-go turn both ways, then time your 5-10-5 shuttle and chase your personal best.

  • Anyone responsible can time or measure it — a parent, teammate, sibling, Glen or Jeff. Log the result yourself.
  • Personal best only for now. Girls grow at different times, so beating your own best is what counts. Achievement standards come after team baseline testing.

Plant and Go

Coach cues

  • Slow down with short, quick steps before the line
  • Hips low at the turn
  • Plant the outside foot and push off hard the other way
  • No drifting past the line — both directions have to look good

Try for

Three cones 5 yards (about 4.6 m) apart. Five turns off the left foot, five off the right.

Why this skill?

Changing direction fast is about the turn, not just the running.

Prove it

Log your personal best. Achievement standards come after team baseline testing — until then, beating your own best is the goal.
